The Highlands Course and the Lakes Course were built
specifically to be of equal difficulty. Both offer
challenges and both are fair to golfers of all skill
levels. It comes down to personal preference. The
Highlands Course, which opened just a few short
months before the Lakes Course, is more of a links
golf experience. The danger for a golfer’s errant
shots lie in the high native grasses and the
numerous bunkers. Rolling fairways coupled with fast
greens give golfers the feeling of playing in
Scotland, the home of golf. And while the course may
feel like one overseas, it is unmistakable that you
are in Houston. The Highlands Course offers
panoramic views of the city, from the Galleria area
to the Medical Center to Reliant Park to Downtown.
It’s breathtaking.
The Lakes Course offers those
same views. But it also throws in the element of
water hazards. The name fits as many of the holes
make you navigate around the Wildcat lakes if you
want to score well. This course too has rolling
fairways and fast greens, but what it lacks in
native grasses it makes up for in water. And both,
offer dramatic elevation changes that can be rivaled
by no other course in Houston.
