Text Box: Tangle Ridge Spring Championship Event

Sundays I-Tour Event in Dallas reminded me of David vs. Goliath.  Total out numbered 86 to 30 the Houston I-Tour members were slated for a D-Town bashing.  The green were the slowest in I-Tour history, and the course played really easy.  In the words of ESPN’S Chris Berman,” and that’s why we play the game.”

Gutierrez-Edmonson-Stephenson to the death on Sunday…….

After a two stroke slow penalty was enforced on Dustin Stephenson (139), Stephenson landed into a 3 way sudden death playoff with Houston’s Tony Gutierrez (139) and Kevin Edmonson (139).  Stephenson’s group finished over 25 minutes behind the group in front of them.  Stephenson got knocked out of the playoff after just one hole and this lead to a good old fashion Houston shootout.  After a terrific fairway bunker shot on the second hole Gutierrez defeated Edmonson with a birdie on hole #2. In a three way tie for 4th place,  Michael Davenport (140), Cody Doyle (140), and Jay Mitchell (140) were also in Stephenson’s group and got penalized 2 strokes.

Rules are Rules…………****Please Read****

Hey guys, the rules are the rules.  We will not bend or break on our Slow Play Law.  It is tragic that Slow Play, played such a big part in Sunday’s Tournament.  We had 29 groups, and 27 of those groups turned their scorecards in less than 20 minutes behind the group in front of them.   The only real tragedy would have been if we did not stroke that group because they were the winners of the event.  The plenty was a bold statement  by the Dallas I-Tour Director Brent Norris, but in my eyes was the correct move.    Plain and Simple:  If you are on the tee box and you do not see the group ahead of you, then you are behind.  It is every players responsibility to ensure we play in 4:30 hours, please report slow players to your tour director.

Burden Picks Up His First Major………

After an even par 72 practice round on Friday, Dan Burden said,” I got my game back and I am ready for Saturday.”  Burden posted a 2 under par 70 on Saturday, leaving him 5 shots behind long time Dallas I-Tour Member Anthony Jackson (65).  Burden went out Sunday with one mission, victory.  His final round (68) proved to be 2 shots better than the field.  Sam Huston finished in second place posting an impressive 140.  Ryan Franklin also posted a 140, but did not have enough events played to win 1st or 2nd.  Paul Harris tied for 4th place 3 shots behind our winner Dan Burden.

Starghill Goes Hollywood On Sunday……

Hollywood as his friends call him, made it to the big stage last Sunday.  Michael Starghill captured his first Major Championship by posting a 12 under par 132.  His 132 was 1 shot better than Dallas I-Tour members Tom Reagan (133) and Stan Reyes (133).  When asked about the victory Starghill said,” I still can’t stop shaking.”  I have never been so nervous on the golf course.”  With $5,000 on the line and the beautiful Spring Championship trophy on the line I can not blame him.  The red hot Ben Bartos finished 4th (137), followed by Alfred Broughton in 5th place (138).

Bernardo Aldape and David Hubbard both posted 140’s and tied for 7th place.  Great Event guys
